Walk the Tail carGolden retriever dog face

Walk The Tail was born in 2000 out of a love for animals and to fill a need in the community for people who wanted their pets cared for in their own homes when they went on vacation. Owner, Nita Bernier-Cirioni, has been taking care of animals for three years while their owners are living. Now, she wants to look after pets after their humans are gone. Her pet-sitting business is booming with over 450 clients; and after realizing most of her animals could live up to 15 years, she questioned what would happen to them if something happened to her. That’s when After You’ve Gone was born.

Nita came up with the name “Walk The Tail” after walking so many dogs–all she saw, literally, was the tail–hence, Walk The Tail. This service is unique because we offer in-home pet care which provides clients with peace of mind. Many of the clients have a unique situation–cancer patients cannot pick up cat feces due to the risk of toxoplasmosis; some clients travel for several months during the summer; others need daily care for their pets, for they are lobbyists and can’t predict their hours. We offer freedom to the pet’s owners, as we are on call year long.

Nita is friends with all her clients, and the pets are naturally drawn to her. Nita’s family members have a natural affinity with pets. They are fortunate to work together and enjoy interacting with the client’s whole family.

The most rewarding thing about what we do is knowing our visit provided rest and relaxation for our clients and a non-stressful event for our furry charges.

Nita was born in Long Island, NY, and obtained a Psychology and Leisure-Services degrees from Florida State University in 1982. She has a Master’s Degree in Parks and Recreation and College Union Administration from Western Illinois University. Previously, Nita taught Commercial and Resort Recreation at FSU and worked for various hotels and cruise ships as a guide.

Our team members: Nita, George, Parker and Dalilah. Both children are interested in veterinary science. We are so fortunate to have daily, hands-on experience with our llamas, alpacas, sheep, miniature horses, bunnies, dogs and more. What an education!
